Dwight has been writing and submitting a weekly Bible article to the local newspaper for several years. His articles are currently being published in the Conroe Courier. While limiting each article to only 250 words, he tries to make each one thought provoking and encouraging.

There is unimaginable power in the Word of God. Here is what writer of Hebrews says, “12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.” Hebrews 4:12. Consider these very important Bible thoughts on the Word of God. “13 For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.” 1 Thessalonians 2:13. “22 Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, 23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,” 1 Peter 1:22-23. “1 Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, 2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.” 1 Peter 2:2.

There are numerous ways the Bible shows itself to be living and powerful. Every prediction made in the Bible has been fulfilled just as spoken. Those future events foretold in the Bible are often given with very specific details. Jesus quotes Psalm 22 in Matthew 27, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” That Psalm gives details that no human could have known so far in advance. “The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me. They pierced My hands and My feet; 17 I can count all My bones. They look and stare at Me. 18 They divide My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots.” Psalm 22:17-18. With complete accuracy Matthew 27 says, “35 Then they crucified Him, and divided His garments, casting lots, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet: "They divided My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots." The word of God is alive with perfect prophecies.

THE POWERFUL WORD OF GOD
The Word of God is, as the Hebrew writer declares, “sharper than any two-edged sword.” Hebrews 4:12. The Apostle Peter, on the day of Pentecost, preaches the gospel of Christ to the crowd gathered at the Temple. The words of God sink deep into those listening ears and so touch them that they cry out for relief. The Bible says this about the hearers, “36 "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ." 37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" Acts 2:36-37. Being cut to the heart, in this context, is to be convicted so strongly they were motivated to act. In Romans 1:16 the Word of God is declared so powerful it can touch any heart anywhere! “16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.” On the other hand, the word of God can also bring comfort and healing to the soul of men. Just read the twenty-third Psalm and experience the incredible calm and assurance that touches the heart. The invitation of Jesus in Matthew 11 is filled with reassuring truths. May your heart be blessed by the reading of the Bible.

Jesus Loved Others
Mark 12:28-34. Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” Is Jesus your example of how to love your neighbor as yourself? Consider these seven examples set by Jesus. Although not an exhaustive list, still they give us an insight into the ways Jesus fulfilled this command. Here are seven ways we know Jesus led the way in loving others.
a. He was always proactive. Going! Doing! Seeking! Mark 9:1
a. He helped others in need. Matthew 8
b. He showed others how to appreciate life. John 14:6
c. He encouraged hope and purpose. John 11:40-44
d. He brought stability and genuine care into the lives of others. Luke 7:13-15
e. He spoke the truth and helped others love truth. John 8:32
f. He showed sacrificial love. John 13
What do you think about Jesus loving others? Did he show that kind of love? Can you make a list of all the blessings Jesus poured on others? Now make a list of what you will do to follow in Jesus’ footsteps and “love others as yourself”.

John 4:35
"...Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest."
"Lift up your eyes", Jesus said. You will only see if you look. No one can look for you. This is doubly true of the spiritual design in God's creation. You will only see it clearly if you look through the eyes of Jesus.
